What is the difference between a soy wax candle and a paraffin wax candle?
The difference is the wax. Paraffin wax is a by-product of refined petroleum - it's the leftover or residual
product that is literally scraped from the 'bottom of the barrel.' Paraffin candles release potentially harmful
pollutants into the air, including several carcinogens.
Soy wax on the other hand, is an all natural
vegetable wax made from soy beans. Unlike paraffin, soy wax is a renewable resource that continues to grow in popularity.
Soy wax burns much cleaner, longer and at a lower temperature than candles made with paraffin wax. Soy wax candles do
not produce toxins, which allow you to illuminate & fragrance your home the healthy way.
Are Soy Deliteful candles really 100%
soy?
Yes. Soy Deliteful only uses 100% All Natural Soy Wax in our candles. Soy Deliteful does not mix
or combine waxes.
Does Soy Deliteful use additives or chemicals?
No Soy Deliteful
does not use any additives at all in our Soy Wax Candles. Other candle manufacturers may use steric acid or U/V blockers.
Soy Deliteful does not use these chemicals as they will emit chemicals into your home.
What kind of wicks
does Soy Deliteful use?
Soy Deliteful only use pure cotton wicks which are coated with soy wax to help
them light when first used. Soy Deliteful do not use wicks which contain Lead, Zinc or any other metal or chemical in our
candles.
You use the term "100% All Natural Soy Wax". Are Soy Deliteful's
candles really 100% All Natural?
The truth is no. The term "100% All Natural" refers to the
Soy Wax. The fragrances are a mixture of natural oils and synthetic fragrances. Having said that, the synthetic fragrances
are totally safe and do not release chemicals into your home, just like flavoured milk (synthetic flavours) doesn't send
chemicals into you body.
All Soy Deliteful fragrances and oils are clinically tested and are
totally safe for you, your home and the environment.
Does Soy Deliteful
"Double" or "Triple" Scent candles?
People who say that they double and triple
scent their candles are just trying to "up sell" their product. Soy wax has a natural fragrance yield, meaning it
can only hold so much fragrance. This will soak the wick making it harder to light and may also pool at the
top of the candle or in pockets along the edge.
Adding too much fragrance also makes your candle
flammable (meaning the wax can ignite) and is very dangerous for your home. So don't be fooled.Soy
Deliteful uses the maximum amount of fragrance possible to ensure you have a great, fragrant and safe candle.
My candle has black soot around the top of the glass. I thought soy candles did not product soot.
No candle can be completely soot-free. Soy wax in itself is virtually soot free,
however natural cotton wicks may produce soot if not maintained properly. If you have fire, you will most certainly
have soot, however, soy candles do have significantly less soot than paraffin. In most cases the black soot on your
soy wax candle container may come from the wick, or from burning your candle in a draft.
To
minimise soot, remember to only burn your candle for one (1) hour for every inch of it's diameter, ensure your wick is
trimmed to 1/4" before each lighting, where possible burn your candle away from drafts and make sure no wick trimmings/matches
are left in the candle wax.
How does Soy Deliteful colour the candles?
Soy Deliteful colours our candles with natural food dyes. We do not use synthetic dyes or colours in our candles.
What if I drop my candle?
Being
natural candles, should you happen to spill some wax on your fabrics or table cloth etc, they should wash out with warm soapy
water in most cases. Please refer to your fabric's washing instructions
Any spilt
Soy Wax can be removed from tables, wall units, shelves etc, by using warm/hot soapy water, and wont leave a waxy mess.
What if I spill Soy Wax onto my skin?
This is one of the
real benefits of Soy Deliteful Soy Wax Candles. As Soy Wax burns cooler than paraffin, should you spill some on your skin,
you'll experience a nice warm sensation. Simply rub it into you skin as a moisturiser, or use warm soapy water to wash
off. Will Soy Deliteful candles burn evenly?
Did you know
that soy wax has a memory? In order to ensure your candle burns evenly and completely, you should allow your soy candle
to achieve a full melt pool on it's first burn. If you don't allow your candle to achieve a full melt pool,
all subsequent melt pools will not go past the first one.
In order to achieve a full melt pool,
Soy Deliteful recommends that you burn your soy wax candle for a minimum of one(1) hour for every inch of the candle's
diameter, or until the candle has melted fully to the sides of the candle container. All future burns should then follow
the first burn's path and melt fully to the side of the container.
Does
Soy Deliteful stock candles?
Generally no. Soy Deliteful prefers to make our candles to order. Being
a Natural Wax, Soy Wax does have a limited shelf life and will deteriorate over time. Generally Soy Wax candles only keep
well for 8-12 months, unless preservatives are used. Soy Deliteful does not use preservatives.
Ocassionally
Soy Deliteful has over-runs or excess exhibition/promotional stock that will be placed on the website, sometimes at discounted
prices. Why does my candle have white dots on it?
'Frosting' or 'Blooming' is a natural characteristic of soy wax and is a great way of being able
to tell if your candle is made with pure all natural soy wax. This is not a flaw and will have no effect on the scent
throw or burning quality of your candle. Candles that don't have this frosting, usually have
an extra coat of wax on the outside or have extra chemicals added to prevent this. Soy Deliteful does not use chemicals.
It is almost impossible to prevent soy wax from frosting, as even the slightest changes in weather can cause frosting.
To help minimise this natural effect, store your candle in a cool area away from indirect & direct sunlight and fluorescent
lighting.
Why does my candle look like its sweating?Soy
wax will sometimes release excess oil or 'soy sweat.' As soy wax has a lower melting point to paraffin, it can
sometimes release excess moisture, especially during significant temperature changes. This can occur after shipping.
This excess moisture/oil can be removed with a paper towel/tissue or left. It will not affect the burn quality of your
candle and will not usually reappear after the initial burn. To ensure the best performance from your candle, always
remember to store your soy wax candle in a cool dry area away from indirect and direct sunlight.
